How To Improve Your Worrying

Our minds, sadly, are programmed to think about the future and predict what might go wrong and ultimately kill us. This jolly pastime is also, of course, known as worrying.

You probably spend a lot of time worrying about how to worry less. This might include trying to drown yourself in positive thoughts or talk yourself out of worries. Both strategies have their place but the problem with worrying a lot is that it’s like shower mould – it spreads.

Instead of trying to solve your worries or banish them entirely, try to set yourself ‘worry time’. Schedule in 15-30 minutes a day where you can worry your head off. Go mad. Obsess like your life depended on it. Write it all down. And then stop.

The advantage of this practice is that it gives you permission to come back to your worries at a particular time rather than trying to deal with them whenever they pop up to hijack you thus allowing you to get on with more important tasks.
